Lewes Green Party Select their Candidates for 2009 County Council Elections - 7th October 2008
Members of Lewes Green Party have recently elected their candidates for next year’s East Sussex County Council elections. Susan Murray, currently a Green town councillor, will be standing for Lewes Division and Matt Kent will be the candidate in Ringmer and Lewes Bridge Division. The Green Party will also put up candidates in all other county council divisions within Lewes District. Susan and Matt relish the challenge of the forthcoming elections and are confident that the Green Party offers the only realistic choice to ensure that local residents get the public services they deserve. Matt Kent said, “With ever increasing fuel prices, local communities must work together to develop sustainable local alternatives. East Sussex needs to develop an energy plan so that cheaper, cleaner and more local fuels can benefit its communities. I intend to ensure greater assistance for people who want to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and businesses, so money can be saved and pollution can be reduced.” Susan Murray said, “ I am honoured that Lewes Green Party has again put its trust in me to present the Green Party’s distinctive message to the electorate of Lewes. Many people wonder if just one or two Green councillors can really make a difference to local government. The example of Kirklees Council where just 4 Green Councillors have been able to push through a policy providing free home insulation for every suitable house in Kirklees district just shows that Greens really can get things done In these difficult economic times it will also be vital to protect public services provided by the council. The government mantra of private good, public bad has been blown out of the water by the sheer incompetence of the bankers and financiers now begging to be bailed out by the public purse. The Green Party believes in social as well as environmental justice and would deliver it if elected.”
