What have some of us been involved with?
Susan Murray is the Green Party parliamentary candidate
for Lewes. Susan is active at many levels in the Green Party.
She is co-chair of Lewes District Green Party. She is the
treasurer of the Confederation of SE Region Green Parties,
which involves legal responsibility for expenditure during European election campaigns, and she is also the treasurer of the national Association of Green Councillors. In addition she sits on the board of Green World, the Green Party's official magazine. In the past she has been an elected member of the Green Party's national executive.
In 2007 she was elected to Lewes Town Council representing Castle Ward.
She has successfully brought a number of resolutions to the Council, including one asking it to support reduced use of plastic bags in the town and most recently one getting it to sign up to the 10:10 initiative. She sits on Lewes Town Council's planning committee - where she is currently vice-chair, and is a member of a number of working parties, including ones relating to traffic, the annual budget, grants and a new planting scheme for the Pells area.
She is one of 4 town councillors sitting jointly with 4 district councillors on the Landport Bottom Management Committee and has been chair of the committee since 2008. She represents the town council at the Priory Trust and also at the Railway Land Wildlife Trust - where it has been particularly exciting to watch the plans for the Linklater pavilion come to fruition.
As a councillor for Castle Ward she is actively involved in local organisations and is, for example, currently chair of the management committee at Landport Youth Centre, where she has been successful in raising funds for essential work.
Susan is active with Transition Town Lewes, particularly with the Lewes Pound Group, of which she is treasurer. She is a long standing member of the Fairtrade Town steering committee and is chair of the Lewes Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
Outside of all the political stuff, Susan enjoys cooking and is a keen reader of literary fiction and a wide range of non-fiction from biography to the environment. In fact she has sadly decided that her main contribution to her personal 10:10 commitment will be to cut down on her book buying habit. She also enjoys going to the theatre, films and concerts.
